Many argentine mountains have a summit book on the top, the mountaineers usually signed it as an ascension testimony.
The last Aconcagua summit book was stolen in 1972,
since then it was not ever replaced.
During the climbing season in 2002, the family of a young mountaineer, who past away on February 2001 and whose dream was to climb Aconcagua, donated a new summit book as a posthumous homage.
Juan Herrera in collaboration with Martín Cugnini carried and installed this new book at the pinnacle of America on January 9, 2002.
